The one about cold weather

I've lived in South Texas almost my whole life.  I know exactly what to expect from floods, hundred degree heat waves (with 100% humidity), and hurricanes.  However, the number of times I've seen a large quantity of snow could probably be counted on one hand.

I know I don't need to tell yall that this winter has been crazy!  In Houston, we had one of the first winter snowfalls in the country (still hard to believe) and while in Oklahoma, we had 7 inches on Christmas eve.

This winter, I finally learned what most of you already know - snow is fun for about 20 minutes.  Then, not so much.

The harshness of this winter has proved two things to me:
1.  I cannot tolerate cold weather in the slightest.
2.  I have no idea how to dress for cold weather.

The shoes I chose to pack for our white Christmas in Oklahoma were so NOT appropriate for snow (think mules with no socks).  So, I literally wore my grandmother's fake Uggs the whole time we were there.  I was uber desperate, obviously.

The day it snowed, I played outside for maybe 15 minutes total, yet the rest of the trip I had constant chills, a fever, and no voice.

So, here's what I want to know from you cold weather climate gals:  What is the protocol for cold weather attire?  Is it function over fashion?

How do you keep from being miserable while being outside?  Do you wear long underwear everyday?  When you are wearing a beanie, do you take it off when you get inside - or leave it on?  Do you wear rain/snow boots to work, and then change when you get there?

And lastly... I need these Kate Spade boots, right??

1. You absolutely need those Kate Spade boots, so adorable.
2. I usually wear rain boots to work and change when I get into the office.
3. No long underwear, but usually a scarf stays on all day (stylish and warm, of course!)

You must get the boots! They are adorable! You and I've grown up in the same place so no answers here, but I do have the same questions. Surely people in cold climates don't look as ridiculous as I do in my many layers shivering all day when it dips to freezing.

Well, being a native MinneSNOWtan I suppose I have some expertise in this area :)

Here, there is just no way to look cute when it is really cold. It is totally function over fashion unless it's above freezing. Especially for me because I take public transportation which means waiting outside for the bus and walking four blocks to the stop.

I wear the ugliest Keen snowboots to and from work everyday. Most people wear Uggs from their car to the office but since I have to walk on icy sidewalks and Uggs have no traction...ugly boots it is. Same with hats and mittens. They aren't cute but I stay warm. Fashionable hats and gloves like the ones at J.Crew just don't cut it.

Everybody wears boots to work and changes there. Most of the ladies in my office have 5+ pairs of shoes at their desks! I don't usually wear long underwear to work (but I have)-- we dress in layers. Lots and lots of layers.

And the boots? They're adorable. I think they were meant for you!!

Try leaving in Clevaland and it snows four months in a year! Definitely too long for a tropical gal like me!
